Pow Pow Pig. Where do I start?
Written by Anh Do, Illustrated by ME, edited by Samantha Forge and Susannah Chambers, art directed by Anton Emdin, design by Kristy Lund-White and published by Allen and Unwin.
Near the end of 2020, I got an email from Davina Bell (who is an INCREDIBLE author — please check out all her books and especially give her YA book The End of the World Is Bigger than Love a read) she tells me that she had been passing my work around at Allen and Unwin and it had gotten infront of a certain Anh Do and would I be able to give him a call?
So, being a little shaken (because, if you didn’t know, Anh’s books are displayed proudly in EVERY SINGLE bookstore in Australia) I tentatively called him up. He tells me he is looking for a new illustrator for a brand new chapter book series and would I be interested in being that illustrator?
And what an experience it has been. I have learnt SO much. I would say I am at least twice as good since starting the book to what I am now — big thank you to Anton, whose art direction helped me level up exponentially.
Thank you to everyone I’ve mentioned so far in creating this wonderful book, you’ve all be an absolute pleasure to work with.
Special thanks to Davina for being my impromptu agent and, of course, to Anh, whos kindess and generosity knows no bounds.
